One of the oldest continuous environmental studies in North America, Coweeta is based in the eastern deciduous forest of the southern Appalachian Mountains, and the centerpiece of a long-term cooperation between the University of Georgia and the USDA Forest Service

Funded by the National Science Foundation, Coweeta LTER has evolved from a site-based to a site- and region-based project centering on the effects of disturbance and environmental gradients on biogeochemical cycling, and the underlying watershed ecosystem processes that regulate and respond to those ecological cycles.

September 2008 - Environmental Information Management 2008. Bringing together information managers, scientists, and informatics researchers, EIM 2008 will feature Coweeta PI James Clark as one of two  keynote speakers.  The conference theme for this year's event is 'Managing Sensor Data in Near Real Time.'

August 2008 - Coweeta researchers further research  into effects of woolly adelgid impact. Published in January of this year, 'Invasive woolly adelgid appears to drive seasonal hemlock and carcass inputs to a detritus-based stream'  examines the short-term seasonal effects of woolly adelgid infestation on allochthonous inputs to stream. Authors: John S. Kominoski, Catherine M. Pringle, and Becky A. Ball.
